7th Annual
William
Inge Theatre Festival

Sidney Kingsley
The first festival was
held in the William Inge Theatre on Mr. Inge’s birthday and was billed as
"A Birthday Celebration" for both Mr. Inge and for the
"birth" of the Inge Festival. The conference festivities began at
9:30 a.m. and included a showing of the multi-media documentary William
Inge: Penn Avenue to Broadway produced by Mike Wood (see bio update in 1998 - Stephen Sondheim)
and a panel discussion on the topic "William Inge: A Perspective in
1982." The morning session included opening remarks by Independence
Community College President Leon Foster and a welcome by Gary Beaver,
President of ICC Student Council. Tours of the William Inge Collection were
conducted by Del Singleton, Director of Learning Resources at ICC. The
showing of the film and the panel discussion were presented a second time at
7:30 p.m. that evening and the Independence Arts Council hosted a reception
following the session.
