Arthur Miller

Arthur Miller was the recipient of "The William Inge Award for Distinguished Achievement in the American Theatre" during a special program of tribute on the stage of the William Inge Theatre in April of 1995.  From ALL MY SONS (1947) to BROKEN GLASS(1994), his plays energize the stage.  His DEATH OF A SALESMAN opened on Broadway Feb. 10, 1949 (Pulitzer and Drama Critics Circle Award) and solidified his reputation as a leading dramatist.  THE CRUCIBLE opened on Broadway in 1953 and earned Miller a Tony.  His works also include: A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE (1955), AFTER THE FALL (1963), THE CREATION OF THE WORLD AND OTHER BUSINESS (1972), and others.  He has written two novels, FOCUS (1945) and THE MISFITS, which was filmed in 1960.  He has written text for IN RUSSIA (1969), CHINESE ENCOUNTER (1979), and IN THE COUNTRY (1977), photography books by Inge Morath.  He wrote the screenplay for the 1980 television production PLAYING FOR TIME, Fania Fenelon's Auschwitz survival story.  (Deceased 2005.)
