Making the Playwright
the Star Every year, the Inge Festival honors a playwright who's body of work has had a profound impact on the American Theatre. Our National advisory Board, including all of our past honorees are included in the decision making process. The William Inge Theatre Festival's capstone event, each year, is an amazing Multi-Media tribute to our Distinguished Achievement in American Theatre honoree. Conceived, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker, Mike Wood, this one-time presentation includes narration, live performances with guest stars, hundreds of slides, video clips from shows and interviews with the honoree and dozens of their collaborators. It is a truly unique presentation which has left many of our honorees speechless or in tears. The 2005 Tribute honors great American playwright, Tina Howe. The Tribute takes place Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 7:30 PM at the William Inge Theatre in Independence. To purchase tickets online please click on the Ticket Information link on the right. The William Inge Theatre Festival is named after Independence native William Inge, the late Pulitzer- and Oscar-winning writer. In addition to the annual four-day celebration of theater, the Inge Festival is host to the Inge House playwrights-in-residence. Working playwrights are invited to Inge’s boyhood home for two-month residencies where they are given support and time to work on their latest projects while living in the home that inspired Inge to write his great scripts.
