Times, dates, descriptions and panelists will be added as they are confirmed On Playwrights and Playwriting: Playwriting Workshops (5 sessions): Insights into the techniques of writing taught by working professionals including: Carson Becker, Marcia Cebulska, Bryan Davidson, Lisa Dillman, Lynne Kaufman. The Playwright/Director Collaboration : A lively discussion between working playwrights and directors on how different collaborations work and drawing the line between who does what. Our expected Directors include: Michael John Garces; Peter Ellenstein, Artistic Director of the Inge Center, Carl Forsman, Artistic Director, the Keen Company; Robert Ellenstein, Artistic Director Emeritus Los Angeles Repertory Company; Luke Yankee, freelance director. Our playwrights include: this year's New Voices Award-Winner, Lynne Kaufman, Carson Becker, Marcia Cebulska, Bryan Davidson, Lisa Dillman. Sat. 4/23: 1:45 PM. Making an independent film: Using his soon to be released film, "CSA: Confederate States of America" as a model, Screenwriter/director Kevin Willmott discusses the trials and tribulations of trying to make a film of your own script. Thurs. 4/21 10:30 AM. Creating "Now Let Me Fly" Brown v. Board of Education: Playwright Marcia Cebulska, Director Kevin Willmott and Video Specialist Mike Wood describe the process of creating the play that celebrated the 50th anniversary celebration of Brown v. the Topeka Board of Education. The play had it's premier in Topeka on the 50th anniversary and has been performed and read all over the country. Thurs. 4-21: 9:00 AM. Otis Guernsey New Voices Playreading Discussion: "Magician’s Choice" our Otis Guernsey New Voices Playwriting Award-Winner, Lynne Kaufman’s new play will be discussed with the director and some of the performers. Sat. 4/23 3:15 PM. On Directors and Directing: The Directing Process: The art of bringing a script to life, in one director's view. What is the first step in approaching a script? Inspirations? Preparation? Designers? Casting? Rehearsals? Finishing Touches? New scripts or old? With guest director Michael John Garces or Inge Festival Artistic Director, Peter Ellenstein. Thurs. 4/21, 10:30. Developing a New Work: A reading from LOVE HECKIE - Author Luke Yankee will read excerpts from his new book about growing up with Eileen Heckart, to be published in the spring of '06. Workshop particpants may choose to hear readings on a variety of topics, from staging the original production of PICNIC to chapters on Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Paul Newman, Martha Stewart, LBJ, and many others. (2 sessions): Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, Editor of Best Plays, hosts these discussions of solo performance, its proliferation on US stages, its aspects positive and negative, and how it may be helping or hindering the development of theatre in this country. Carole Cook and Tom Troupe, husband and wife performance team, are veterans of hundreds of performances in theatre, film and television. On William Inge and Tina Howe: A Conversation with Tina Howe. Our honoree, great American playwright, Tina Howe, will informally discuss her life and work in the American Theatre. Fri.
