CALL FOR PAPERS
The 22nd Annual William Inge Theatre
Festival and Conference
The William Inge Theatre Festival is in its
third decade of honoring major living playwrights through a wide
range of performances, readings, seminars, workshops, lectures,
panel discussions and historical activities. For four days each
year, the small city of Independence, Kansas, becomes the
theatrical center of the universe with visits from the greatest
playwrights, directors, actors and other theatre practitioners,
all met to honor a major playwright in a playwright’s town.
Additional awards to a “New Voices” Playwright and a Kansas
Citizen of the Arts are also presented. Next year’s festival will
be held April 9-12, 2003.
We are pleased to announce that the recipient
of the 2003 William Inge Distinguished Achievement in the
American Theatre Award is Romulus Linney.
Past recipients are: Jerome Lawrence, William
Gibson, Robert Anderson, John Patrick, Garson Kanin, Sidney
Kingsley, Robert E. Lee, Horton Foote, Betty Comden and Adolph
