On Playwrights and
Playwriting:
Playwriting
Workshop (2 sessions): Insights into the techniques of
writing taught by working professionals including: Richard Hellesen, Melanie Marnich. Spectators
welcome and participants encouraged.

The Playwright/Director Collaboration
(2 Sessions): A lively discussion between working
playwrights and directors on how different collaborations work and
drawing the line between who does what. Our expected Directors
include: Curt Dempster, Artistic Director of Ensemble Studio Theatre;
Kent Thompson, Artistic Director of Alabama Shakespeare Festival;
Ernest A. Figueroa, Artistic Associate at Pasadena Playhouse; Jill
Andre, Freelance Director. Our expected playwrights include:
Theresa Rebeck, this year's New Voices Award-Winner, Richard Hellesen,
Melanie Marnich, David Scott Hay. Moderators:

Creating Children's Musicals: Award-winning playwright Richard
Hellesen and Grammy and Emmy winning songwriter, Michael Silversher
describe their collaboration which has produced seven new successful
musicals for children. They will be joined by Jerry Patch,
Dramaturg for South Coast Repertory Theatre who has had a bird's-eye
view of their collaboration. Presentations with audience Q&A.

Adapting the Playscripts to Filmscripts: Playwrights and
Screenwriters, Kevin Willmott and David Scott Hay discuss the thrill
and challenges of adapting plays written for the stage into

New Voices Playreading: "The Bells" our New Voices
Award-Winner, Theresa Rebeck's new play will receive a concert
reading featuring our visiting guest artists, under the direction of
Kent Thompson, Artistic Director of Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

"The Bells" Discussion: A discussion of Theresa Rebeck's
play with the author, director, some of the performers and other

On Directors and
Directing: From Page to
Stage: The art of bringing a script to life as described by
working professionals. What is the first step in approaching a script?
Inspirations? Preparation? Designers? Casting? Rehearsals? Finishing
Touches? New scripts or old? Hosted by Inge Festival
Artistic Director Peter Ellenstein, with audience

On Actors and Acting:
Performing Shakespeare: A
hands on workshop for actors in how to breathe life and blood and guts
into Shakespeare while making all the nuances of thought clear to the
audience. Participants should prepare a short Shakespeare
Speech. Taught by award winning Actor/Director Robert Ellenstein.
Spectators welcome and participants encouraged.

Acting on Film: A hands on
workshop on the techniques of acting on film. Taught by
Katherine Billings of the Vancouver Film Institute. Spectators welcome

Theatre Performance: A hands on musical theatre performance workshop
with Wayne Bryan veteran Broadway performer and Producing Director of
the Music Theatre of Wichita and award-winning musical director Paul
Baker. Spectators welcome and
participants encouraged to bring a song they know well and would like

Acting Workshop: Star of stage and screen
Kaitlin Hopkins will provide hands on
instruction for actors who bring in scenes and monologues.

On Theatre in General and
Show Business: Facing the
Theatrical Future (2 sessions): Jeffrey Eric Jenkins, Editor of
Best Plays, hosts these two panels that look at the trends and
challenges facing the American theatre today. Other special
guest panelists will present the point of view of the Producer,
Director, Playwright, Actor and Dramaturg.

Diva Dish: Producer-Director Luke
Yankee, whose lifetime in the theatre was heavily influenced by his
mother, the late great actress, Eileen Heckart, presents a multi-media
inside look at some of Broadway and Hollywood's most interesting

Making it in Hollywood: Working Hollywood actors discuss the
current state of Showbiz on the West Coast and how to seek work, find
good training, keep in practice and make a living while waiting for

On William Inge and
Romulus Linney:
A Conversation with Romulus Linney: Our
honoree, great American playwright Romulus Linney will informally
discuss his life and work in the American Theatre. He will be
interviewed by his longtime friend and collaborator,
Actor/Director/Playwright Austin Pendleton.

The Scholars Conference: Selected scholars from around the country
present papers on the works of William Inge and Romulus Linney.

Reflections on William Inge: Actors Shirley Knight and
Kaitlin Hopkins, Inge Biographer Ralph Voss and Scholar Jeff Johnson
discuss Inge's work from different perspectives. Sat.

On the Inge Collection (3 Sessions): Inge Biographer, Ralph
Voss, gives an informative talk on the unique Inge Collection, the
largest collection of Inge material in the world.

Performance: A Simple
Prayer: Emmy and Grammy-winning Composer Michael
